Mid Wales has scores of fantastic events on throughout the summer, so we thought we would pick five of our favourites to tell you about.

The little market town of Rhayader is only 2.5 miles from camp, and this friendly place is rich in history and things to do. Every year the town hosts it's own Carnival Week which is packed full of fun events including a Teddy Bear Parachute Jump at one of the local Churches, Junior and Senior Treasure Hunts around the town, a Vintage Show, exhibitions, sporting events such as the famous Gwastedyn Hill Race, quiz nights, an exciting wheel barrow race, a rock paper scissors competition, the Fire Service âItâs A Knock Outâ & Open Evening at Rhayader Fire Station, music events throughout the week and there's also Carnival Day itself on Saturday 20th. The Royal Welsh is an incredibly popular international agricultural event held at the Royal Welsh Showground in nearby Builth Wells. Each year sees droves of people visit from all over the world to experience an exciting four-days of livestock competitions as well as the wide range of activities and events that happen over the course of four days. There's sheep-shearing competitions, sports, craft stalls, shopping, food and drink and plenty of live entertainment too. A real gem in the Mid Wales calendar! www.rwas.wales/royal-welsh-show
Not around for Royal Welsh? Fear not, you can experience the smaller Brecon County Show on Saturday 3rd of August. Just a 45 minute drive from our campsite, this agricultural show has it's own unique events and attracts over 10,000 visitors each year. There's plenty to see and do, with a dog show, craft demonstrations, falconry displays, a fun fair and a beer hall to quench your thirst on a hot summer day! The spa town of Llandrindod Wells is steeped in Victorian architecture and history. Each year the town hosts an Annual Victorian Week with events running throughout. You will see lots of townsfolk and visitors dressed in traditional Victorian outfits and may even get a sneak peak at Queen Victoria herself! The week concludes with an immensely popular fireworks display over Llandrindod Lake in the evening of the last day.Only a 15 minute drive from camp, this unique festival is easy to reach and lots of fun for all ages. www.victorian-festival.co.uk
For something completely different, why not visit Llanwrtyd Wells and see the one and only World Bog Snorkelling Championships. This international sporting event is unique to Mid Wales and once seen, is never forgotten. See participants paddle through a stretch of Waen Rhydd bog on the outskirts of the town at record breaking speeds. You can even enter yourself if you fancy taking the plunge. This great event is lots of fun and there's also food and drink stalls, crafts, a bouncy castle, live music and a real ale and cider bar on the site if you would rather stay dry and spectate.
