Elan Oaks is a pet-friendly campsite, perfect for long walks with your dog. There is some superb scenery and fantastic walks to be enjoyed in the majestic landscape that surrounds the campsite. Whether you head east towards Rhayader or west in to the Elan Valley estate, the old railway line (now a cycle and footpath) meanders gently through some of the most beautiful countryside that Wales has to offer.
We were recently featured in the book 'Wonderful Walks from Dog-Friendly Campsites Throughout The U.K.' by Anna Chelmicka, published by Hubble & Hattie. Of Elan Oaks, Chelmicka writes "It is a neat, extremely well cared for site in a wonderful location." She also praises the local area noting the rich history and unspoiled countryside and then goes on to describe two walks that you can take from Elan Oaks that are ideal for enthusiastic hikers and canine companions alike.
The first walk heads into the hills towards Rhayader. It is roughly 6 miles long and takes around 3 hours to complete. The second is a more lengthy constitutional around the Caban Coch reservoir which is roughly 9.5 miles from start to finish and takes 5 hours. Both hikes are suitable for walking your dog although it is necessary to keep your pets on a lead once in the hills to avoid any chasing of sheep which graze freely in the fields and common land of the valley.
It is worth noting that we have the benefit of the beautiful River Elan running through the bottom of the campsite, which is perfect to splash about in after a long walk on a warm day.
